Executive vice president of SuperClubs, Joe Issa, said the all-inclusive resort chain is on course to meet its target of operating 4,000 hotel rooms by the end of this year.
Issa told guests at the chain’s annual Invitational Golf Tournament awards banquet held at Breezes Golf and Beach Resort last Saturday night that this target, set three years ago, will be attained next month with the opening of the new 350-room Breezes Brazil in South America.
SuperClubs, which was established in 1976, also plans to open a 480-room hotel, Breezes Holguin, in Cuba next January.
“Our life began a little over 24 years ago with next year being the big two-five,” Issa said.
“My father and mother never envisioned then that we could grow into constantly growing, trendy, trail blazing 15-resort hotel chain that would fundamentally change the way we all provide and enjoy vacations around the world, much the same way reggae music transformed the way the people both listen to and play music internationally,” he said.
However, the young hotelier said that despite the chain’s success, he is fully aware of the challenges which continue to confront the tourism industry.
These challenges, he said, include a reduction in the number of companies in the travel trade industry, the advent of larger hotel chains, as well as travel agent and tour operator consortiums.
In addition, he said that tourism entities are now faced with high volumes, low margins, and the intense competition of a global society.
However, he encouraged his audience of executives, staff, travel agents and tour operators to remain optimistic, saying that “if we stick together as a family and play together we will, over the next 25 years, be prosperous and successful.”
Issa expressed appreciation to all those who had helped the company to achieve its successes over the past 24 years.
