Joe Issa tipped to head St. Ann Chamber of Commerce

Thirty-year-old hotelier Joseph Issa is tipped to become the next and youngest president of the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce.

The post of president will be up for grabs at the next annual general meeting of the chamber scheduled to take place later this month.

Incumbent president, Jeanne Dixon has decided not to seek re-election after serving for three terms.

Issa who is the current first vice president of the Chamber is reported to be unopposed for the top post in the organization and has already received the blessing of the current executive.

He is currently vice president of the SuperClubs group headed by his father, hotelier, John Issa.

A career hotelier, he was born into a family of tourism entrepreneurs and started out early in the industry while studying overseas. Locally he has held a number of top positions in the hotel industry. These include resident manager at the Grand Lido Hotel, 1989 and general manager, Couples hotel in 1993.

In 1994, the International Hotel Association selected him as the Young Hotelier of the World.

One St. Ann businessman who has expressed support for Issa said he would be assuming leadership of the Chamber at a time, when the organization needed to be restructured to meet the needs of the business.

He said Issa’s administrative skills should make him an effective president of the Chamber.
