Attended a lovely function last week in Ocho Rios for Andre Isaacs, a former student at St. George’s College and now a chemistry major at the College of the Holy Cross in Boston, USA.
Andre, 20 years old and the recipient of a scholarship from the Joe Issa/Holy Cross Scholarship Fund, has just finished his first semester in college and is currently boasting a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.
According to him, his experience so far has been invaluable and one where he has the opportunity to interact with people from all over the world. He is very much involved in on-campus activities and is bent on achieving success for both himself and his country.
Proud mother, Sonia Lewis, said that she knew from an early age that Andre was “something special”. She said she was proud of the opportunity he got from the scholarship fund, noting that it would not have otherwise been possible for him to get an education from such a prestigious institution. Andre’s 16 year-old sister, Jodi-Ann, is a student to the Alpha Academy and is also showing great promise. “I thank God everyday for my blessings,” Ms. Lewis beamed.
President of St. George’ College, the Reverend Ted Dziak, said that Andre has always been an outstanding student and that he was not surprised at his success. Andre gave a moving speech, thanking the foundation and also his mother for what he called “an opportunity of a lifetime”. In attendance were Joe Issa, Richard Lue, Barbara Evans, Jennifer Evans, Paula Thompson, Blair Gonzales, Lisa Marsh, Kathleen Thompson, Ravi Daswani, Ravi Chatani, Nicky O.J., Tanya Wong and Eva Myers.
