Hedonism II does it again!: First hotel to win major awards four years in a row

Superclubs Hedonism II in Negril has once again come out on top at the recently held Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Culinary Arts Competition. The Hedonism II culinary team managed to capture 34 medals and awards through its hard work and dedication one even though this year’s competition was such a competitive one.

SuperClubs Hedonism II has become the first hotel to win one of the top awards four years in a row. In 1999, Bartender Joel Becker walked away with the bartender of the year award, in 2000 and 2001, Hedonism II coped the coveted Shell Dutch Pot Award for best overall performance and this year Ansel Beason captured the Chef of the year award. This is an extraordinary achievement by any standard.

“Having lost five experienced members of the culinary tem, our young entrants did us all proud,” noted Joseph Smith, General Manager of Hedonism II, “we are additionally proud that as a result of his winning the Chef of the year award, Ansell Beason will be Captain of the Jamaica culinary team at the International Competition held later this year.” Executive Vice President of SuperClubs, Joe Issa has also extended hi congratulations to the team, “the Hedonism II culinary team has worked wonders this year, their presentations were superb and their efforts are to be commended.”

Ansell Beason is the ‘Chef of the Year’

Ansell Beason, Executive Chef at SuperClubs Hedonism II resort has emerged the winner of this year’s coveted Chef of the Year Award at the recent Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Culinary Arts Competition. Ansell Beason has been involved in Food and Beverage for well over twenty-five years. He started his career as an assistant cook at the Four Seasons Sheraton in Toronto, Canada, where he stayed for four years. He moved back to Jamaica in 1974 and has held quite a few notable positions at some of the top hotels including the Dragon Bay resort in Port Antonio. He spent 8 years in New York where he garnered experience to efficiently run all kitchen and kitchen staff operations. He has worked at the fabulous Tudor Hotel and the Le Parker Meridian Hotel in New York.

As an executive Chef at SuperClubs Hedonism II he is responsible for training staff, planning and costing, managing payroll and upholding all Department of Health standard. His success this year at the JCDC Culinary Show has come through many years of hard work and was years in the making. His talents outshone those of other teams. The success of the young culinary team he had to train is a great accomplishment for him and something he will certainly be proud of for years to come.
