When the Prince came visiting
Last Sunday evening His Royal Highness Prince Charles, heir to Britain’s throne, was greeted at Norman Manley Airport by Governor General Sir Howard Cooke who took him directly to the Barbican home of John and Aida Issa for a reception and supper.
Prince Charles participated in the round table meeting organized by the Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum, which was attended by leaders from Jamaica, the United States, Barbados, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.
After the meeting, the small gathering retired to the garden which was elegantly lit with Georgian lanterns. The pink bombast tree, its trunk elegantly draped in pepper lights, was in full bloom and this caught the attention of the environmentally-conscious Prince.
The beautiful sounds of the Cuban duet – a violinist and guitarist – filled the air blending naturally with the sounds of the waterfall.
HRH mingled easily with the intimate group of about 40 persons including 15 Jamaicans, before making his way to the spectacular buffet dinner prepared by Le Meridein Jamaica Pegasus. Beautifully arranged were displays of lobster, shrimp, crab backs, ham, roast beef, salads, and more. The Prince sampled some local dishes including gungo peas and rice.
Two hours later, HRH, who was described as “very friendly”, with “a great sense of humour”, and “very at ease”, said his goodbyes to the Issa family thanking them for a delightful and relaxing evening. The Prince also thanked the staff before he departed.
