Joe Issa, who was considered heir apparent to this father, John Issa, in the family controlled SuperClubs hotel chain, has made an abrupt departure from the company, the Business Observer learned yesterday.
Zein Issa-Nakash, Joe Issa’s younger sister and SuperClubs’ vice-president for marketing and public relations, confirmed that her brother had left the business but declined to give the reason. “Joey is no longer with us,” Issa-Nakash said. “That is all I am prepared to say.” The departure of Joe Issa, 38, from the family business, one of the Caribbean’s best known hotel brands, was a seeming down side in his life that, on the face of it, is romantically on the up.
Issa recently became engaged to Asha Maglani, an Ocho Rios businesswoman who operates at least two tourist shops in that north coast resort town.
Joe Issa has developed business interests outside of SuperClubs and is the principal of Cool Oasis service stations and related facilities in St Ann. He has also served as president of the St Ann chamber of Commerce.
But is in the hotel business, where the Issa family have been pioneers, that Joe Issa appeared to have carved a place and made a name for himself. He served in managerial positions in several of the SuperClubs hotels.
In 1998 he was appointed senior vice president for sales, and later became executive vice president for the chain of 15 resorts.
