Celebrity-spotting was the order of the day in the Garden parish of St. Ann last week.
Staying at the Jamaica Grande Resort were the hot disco duo of the late 70s – early 80s era, Ashford and Simpson, a couple that has aged gracefully with time.
Still sporting their trademark jherri curls and ‘bare as you dare’ outfits, the couple were very accommodating throughout their stay and once even had an impromptu autograph session beside the maui lobby.
Also spotted at the Jamaica Grande was hot female rapping sensation Foxy Brown, who had many tongues wagging with her not –so subtle outfit.
But, by far the biggest attraction in town and one that both the tourists and locals couldn’t get enough of was LL Cool J, at the Sans Souci Grand Lido.
The rapper-turned-actor who came to the island to attend a friend’s wedding was a special guest of the all-inclusive chain’s executive vice-president Joe Issa, and throughout his weeklong stay, was easily the focus of attention.
When he wasn’t busy taking domino lessons, the rapper was always surrounded by fans seeking autographs and pictures. He was also extremely accommodating.
And when he was not at the hotel, LL Cool J could be seen at the very popular Bi Bi Bips Bar, hanging out with owner Andy Chin and listening to live reggae music.
Our sources tell us that, next week, a prominent media figure will be having his wedding reception on the property, a function that is already being touted in some quarters as possibly the wedding of the year.
And the following week, the resort, we are told, will be hosting another reception, this time involving another Hollywood icon in the form of actor Wesley Snipes. Sans Souci’s management is being tight-lipped about the arrangements and is not revealing much as far as if it’s the actor, a friend or a family member getting married.
